I have been involved in Canterbury Table Tennis since 2001, both as a representative and as a serving committee member continuously for over 15 years, both as a selector and on the interclub and player development sub committees. Now retired I contribute to Table Tennis through coaching and in my business, Table Tennis Gear, importing and selling equipment. I’m also Club Captain of the Kirwee club. I love to travel and have participated in many tournaments around New Zealand and also played regularly at the Australian Veterans and in China, Phuket , Vietnam, Bali and Fiji. My coaching philosophy is to the get the best out each player, working drills based around game situations and helping to develop good footwork. I have also coached Badminton and played high level squash and golf. Born in Christchurch, I have lived here all my life gaining a degree at Canterbury University and am married with two adult children and two grandsons.

I have been playing table tennis for 20 years now, my first nationals was in 2006 representing Southland. Table Tennis has become my passion and has been the major parts of my life that has gotten me through some very tough times. The people, the socialising, the competition and the fun away on trips have been amazing! It has been a way for me to meet people right across the country, building relationships and making some lifelong friendships. I gradually moved my way up the South Island for tertiary studies playing for both Otago and Canterbury before returning back to Southland in 2019 when I joined the management committee there which my roles were running tournaments, as a selector, managing fundraising activities, and as a team manager at tournaments. Since moving back to Christchurch in 2024, I have had my first opportunity to represent NZ, been selected for the top 8 tournament and am now the Vice President of TTC. I am thoroughly looking forward to helping grow TTC and sharing my passion with new and current members I interact with. Please feel free to come an have a chat with me any time.

I am originally from Tokyo, Japan and living in Christchurch since 2001. I hadn't played table tennis for over 25 years since graduating from high school, but when I started teaching my 3 children on the dining table during the lockdown 2020, I realized how fun this was and have continued to play ever since. It is a lifelong sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and physical abilities. One of my goals as TTC committee member is to create an environment that can be enjoyed by all generations and people who are new to Table Tennis. I would also like to work on developing and strengthening the junior players in Canterbury.

I began my coaching journey in Lebanon, leading our national squad in various international competitions. I also served as head coach for the Hopes Training Camp in Lebanon, working with talented young players. I played table tennis competitively for many years, representing my country at events including the World University Games in South Korea. In 2021, I moved to New Zealand and continued my passion for coaching in my new home. In 2022, I was appointed Junior Development Officer, and soon after began coaching for the New Zealand squad. My first appointment was with the junior boys’ team, followed by my last two appointments coaching the men’s team, where we celebrated some remarkable accomplishments. In recognition of my efforts, I was honoured to receive Table Tennis New Zealand’s Coach of the Year award, a proud milestone in my career. I look forward to many more coaching opportunities with Canterbury Table Tennis and Table Tennis New Zealand, continuing to grow the sport and inspire the next generation of players.

I started playing table tennis at 13 years old after getting bored of watching my brother play. Once I started playing, I could not stop. I am originally from the Mighty Manawatu, where I was a player and was on the committee for several years until I moved to Christchurch for my tertiary studies. I have been in the National Squad for six years. I have had the privilege of representing New Zealand on four occasions at both a junior and senior level. I hope to encourage more individuals to find a passion for Table Tennis and create life-long relationships as I have experienced.

I am brand new to the sport of table tennis and am thoroughly excited to have my first experience here with Table Tennis Canterbury. One of my favourite aspects of sport is the relationships and connection with others; it seems this awesome sport is no different. The community has been super welcoming! I have had years of experience is a number of sports in all different areas, but a lot of my passion lies in coaching basketball. I am a part of the Mainland Pouakai coaching staff for the Tauihi League and have had recent success winning U20 nationals in 2023 and 2024 as the head coach of the Canterbury U20 women's team. I'm sure it won't be long before you find me on the tables giving table tennis a crack!
